It's OK funnygirl. I was only joking!! I don't like cheap ornaments either, but there are some that my son gave me when he was little that I simply have to have out - but not in very conspicuous places!!
I dont really like ornaments. I have a few my son brought back from holidays abroad which are quite respectable so I have those on show in a cabinet (where they cant collect dust ). I have a few family photo frames but not in main room. I dont like plants as they always die on me. I love fresh flowers though
I've a Carriage Clock (wedding present) and my late brother's ornaments on or around the fireplace. That's enough thank you. However, my FIL has two display cupboarsds filled with my late MIL's ornaments. Some are lallique, others are expensive too. I don't touch or wash thank you.
LL is it okay if i come over for a cuppa. will bring some choccy biscuits with me. i collect wood fired stoneware and also have some cast glass. books on shelves and 5 paintings and 7 numbered prints and 10 hanging ceramics (art pieces not plates) on the walls various african ccarvings and handmade cermics mixed up with the books. sounds clattered but floor swept and polished all chairs clear with fresh covers, log fire lit and all welcome. but not if you just want to criticise about clutter.
I think Lottie and a few others on here are my soul mates. I also think all the bits we collect over a lifetime is what gives our homes character and personality. My ex and I collected early 20thc pottery-we each got half. About 1/3 of what I got is scattered around my flat-on top of the piano,on walls, and on the shelves of a small Arts & Crafts oak dresser. All the rest is packed away-I can't even remember what it all is..;-0
I've also got masses of books in piles-floor,table-wherever they will fit. There's also the plants-and I don't go in for small ones.
Every thing I've got has some memory attached to it. I hate sterile or minimalist environments,I also hate homes that say nothing about their occupants.
Do I dust...only when I have to....I'll never be obsessive about housework-life's too short for that!
This is going to be a large tea party!! The more the merrier. My cups and mugs are also a bit of a jumbled assortment!! ;o)
I recently had a sort out of ornaments, some were given to charity shops, some accidentally on purpose fell on the kitchen floor and broke. Lots of cat/dog/rabbit ornaments that I like but don't want on display were made to fit in the top half of the wall unit, they're there but not noticable. I don't like dusting so less to dust fortnightly now. If you don't move anything what dust there is doesn't notice :-) I haven't had things on windowsills for years & years, other than real cats enjoying the sunshine. My kitchen is tidy with most things in cupboards. Don't have a breadbin, bread is kept on bottom shelf of a wall cupboard. Don't like storage containers for bread, biscuits, flour, spice racks, dried fruit etc. They just take up space & you don't often use what's in them. keep them in a cupboard if you have space. Two of my sisters are tidy like me, the other sisters' house is a right mess with everything from over the years cluttering it up.
