I'm being driven insane by hourly calls from Santander - they are recorded messages. No one in the house has an account with them. How can I stop them?

Have you tried the "Telephone Preference Serivce". Takes a while to kick in but stops a lot of the unwanted calls.

Have you registered your phone number for TPS? This SHOULD cut out most unsolicited calls and you can take note of such calls and report them. Hope this helps.

What is TPS?

Brilliant - I'll do that now. Many thanks
Are you with BT? You can report nuisance calls to BT.
Register yourself with the TPS as well - they are as useful as a paper umbrella but might as well give them something to ignore.
You could also contact Santander and ask for this to stop.
I have an answerphone which is usually switched on all the time. The TPS does not stop calls from outside the UK but it will cut down the total amount you get.

Done it - registered with TPS.
They say it takes 28 days to become fully active but unwanted calls should start to decrease immediately
Have a look at Silent Callguard too. There is a link to it on the TPS site.
They are also free and very good at stopping those dreadful silent calls when you pick up the phone and......nothing.....
.......alternatively you could just move and leave the calls for the next person to deal with :o)

Will look at that one too ladyalex, thanks

Not exactly a cheap option annie!
If I recall, you didn't specify it had to be cheap! lol
Question Author
If you knew me well annie you would know that "cheap" is my middle name
(or was it "common"? I forget....)
lol

there is only one thing that pops into my head every time I see your name and that's the thread about your son cutting the hole in the carpet to cover up the fact that he'd puked on it.........i'm still laughing now!!
BT do a choose to refuse service too ...

if they are number showing (rather than withheld), you punch in a code to block further calls!

or call the company and complain?
Question Author
annie - I hadnt thought about that for at least a month

I guess one day I will laugh about it....
If you have an answer machine, then the caller will hang up the minute the answerphone kicks in!
MrsO, we joined the Caller Preference Service - you do have to pay (about £45 p.a.) but we have hardly had any nuisance calls since we joined 4 years ago. If one sneaks through all we have to do is ring CPS on a freephone number, they contact the caller and ask them to delete us from thier calling lists - if they don't, the caller can then be prosecuted.
