Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary & Lists Collection

I have 5th Edition of these and I know Anne Bradford updates them regularly. Does anyone know which are the very latest editions out now. ( I have seen the pair of books from The Book People for £5.99 + £1.95 postage, but not sure if they are Edition 8 and when they were published)
& is it really worth updating? Your views please fellow cruciverbalists!

I try to get the hardback versions if the are offered at reduced price. I can't afford to buy every edition so I try to get every second one; that is usually enough if you are good at crosswords.

Just updated my Bradfords roslyn .Got the 8th edition from Amazon . I got it for £7.79
Worth updating the Crossword Dictionary .Have Lists too and also Hamlyn which enough for me .
The Book People tend to have bin ends etc so wouldn't think it was the latetst one .

I have the 7th edition. I also like Miriam Websters "The complete crossword dictionary". I have far too many crossword reference books. A whole floor to ceiling narrow bookcase full.Not long since updated my film /actors books to Radio Times "Films 2012) still got Halliwells though. Do occasionally send replaced books to my brother.

How can you say you are good at crosswords if you are looking it up in a book? Surely you should be relying on your own brain power.

If that was meant for me I have always been lazy but that does not mean I can't do them on my own. Tonight I did the Spectrum puzzle on my own in the Roseburn Bar in approx 30 mins.

Cryptic crosswords rely on wordplay Starbuckone.
Some can solve them cold but I'd defy anyone who can solve from their grey matter alone especially barred theme types like the Speccie ,Azed etc and real toughies like The Listener ....

No one can know everything about everything. You need to have an inkling what the answer could be to be able to look up something about it. I also like to look things up to verify I have the correct answer. Sometimes a crossword is like a very enjoyable treasure hunt.

Didn't mean to imply that you were not cleverclogs. I am hopeless at doing crosswords so I cannot criticise, I just did not realise there were books out there helping crossword addicts. I can just about do the one in the Sun which I would imagine catered for people who are passing an idle hour or two. Actually this has aroused my interest and I am tempted to buy the book.

If you only buy one book Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary is the one to get. It is an excellent assistant to have at hand. It is my first 'go to' reference work. I have 3 shelves of crossword and general reference books close at hand.

Bradfords is brilliant .I rely on it far more than my BRB which is falling apart at the seams .I always circle it on The Speccie but never win a new one :)

Good gracious howard, you are indeed an addict. I shall take your advice and buy Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary. If I took all your books away would you have withdrawal symptoms? I'm off to Amazon to see if they have any bargains.

My 6th edition is beginning to fall apart so think I'll update. i see the 4th October 2012 Hardback Edition is available for pre-order at Amazon but don't know if I can wait that long. I've a lot of Dictionaries and Reference Books which I've accumulated over the years so think I'll have a de-cluttering session! The Bradford's Dictionary is brilliant-I've recommended it to several people.I've found words in it which weren't in any of the others.

For books like Halliwells try your local library when they sometimes sell old books cheap when they get they latest edition. Amazon good source as well. I've had quite a few for a penny (plus postage) in excellent condition.
