clutch burn out
In July last year I had my clutch replaced at a garage some 18 miles away, as I was out and about when it went. On Saturday I lost power and seems the clutch has gone again. The garage who fitted it say they will have to examine the clutch to determine if it is covered by the guarantee. That leaves me with the expense of having the vehicle towed 18 miles without any assurance of getting it replaced free. A well respected local garage has given me a good price for a new clutch and added they would keep the old clutch and examine it and report if it was a faulty clutch with a view to seeking a refund from the original repair. My gut feeling is the original garage will refuse to coperate.
Are there any people here who have had any similar expeiriences with this kind of thing?

If I can give you advise Mick, get them to replace the lot, Spinner ( Clutch) Pressure plate + bearing if the garage is a good one they will replace these, was the clutch they put in a recommended one? with respect, they will be able to confirm if the clutch has been ridden, a lot of people out there do not seem to think this does clutch wear ( My own wife included) I hope...

Mick, don't take this the wrong way, do you leave your left foot resting on the Clutch Pedal? if yes this is where you have gone wrong.does anyone else drive the car? if not the clutch should have lasted longer than that, have you still got the receipt from the Garage that fitted your new clutch? if so contact them. I would fight the case here even though it is 8 Months do not be fobbed off.
Thanks TWR....., I have in the past been guilty of riding the clutch as you suggested, but since last July I have watched to make sure I got out of this habit. Nobody else drives my car. Yes I do have the receipt. This afternoon the RAC recommended I should pay a reputable garage to fit a new clutch, which is what I have now done. This garage will inspect the old clutch and make a report . If it has not been caused by my habit I can then pursue a refund from the original fitter. The RAC say they will help me if in such circumstances I get no joy from them. This obviously saves me gambling on paying for the car to be taken over to the old mechanic in the hope of a free replacement, as in all probability they will fob me off.
