We have just had a new kitchen installed, together with new sinks. We asked the fitter how do we keep the stainless steel sinks gleaming. He said to buy our selves a bottle of baby oil as he found it the best stuff to keep stainless steel bright. We did buy some, tried it and it does.

I asked this question a short time ago and Eddie51 told me to clean it with a small amount of vinegar. I did and it is now gleaming and free of those awful water streaks.
That would make sense. Calcium carbonate is alkaline so would tend to shift in the presence of an acid such as vinegar. Depending on what is causing the streaks.
