I am using Windows Virtual PC to run the odd XP-only application on my new Win 7 system

Whilst I can see the Win 7 file system from the XP virtual machine, I can't figure out how to do the reverse - see the XP virtual(?) file system from Win 7

Is this possible?

I'm trying to figure out how to back up files that are being used by the virtual XP machine

Thanks

Have you set up a workgroup? Or, if the physical machine is part of a workgroup / domain, have you added the virtual machine to it?

I hadn't, but now I have - it's now in the same workgroup as the host pc (the one running Win 7)

However, when I added the workgroup I also took the opportunity to change the virtual machine name to something more meaningful

Now I have BOTH the old name AND the new name in my list of networked computers - but I get an access error when I try to browse either of them
"Windows cannot access \\pcname - check the spelling or there might be a network problem"

You won't be able to access the XP computer via the new name unless there is something shared on it. And the old name is stored on your router, you can either log into the router and delete its DHCP entry... or... just wait, it will go on it's own when the lease times out.

I'm sure this is easy, but ....

I have shared the virtual C drive, but I am still getting "Windows cannot access \\virtualxp" - virtualxp is the name of my virtual XP image. The rest of the error says "Network path not found"
