....... our IT man in work remembers doing some work for the DVLA, involving computers, which involved heaving a filing cabinet-sized computer into the back of a van. It had a storage capability of 80KB!

I remember those adding machines. We had one in the accounts office when I was in the RAF, circa 1968. I found it quicker to do the stuff in my head. Early supermarkets had them too; the checkout girl would read the price on the package, punch it it then pull the handle, punching in total at the end. At the time I thought that this was the cutting edge of technology!
