Is anyone aware that Jo Guest alias "Supernanny" has ever been nominated for any kind of award? (eg., an OBE)??

Do you mean Jo Frost?
Question Author
Sorry lady birder -YES! I did mean Jo Frost!!
If there has ever been such a nomination it's managed to avoid the attention of Wikipedia and several other pages providing a biography of Jo Frost. (I've just checked).

Anyway, while 'Supernanny' is undoubtedly a useful contribution to providing parenting hints to people who've probably never received any form of training in the task(who has?), there's no reason to assume that Jo Frost's approach is the ideal way forward for everyone.

I've known happy, confident children who've been brought up in homes where (shock horror!) the occasional smacked bottom might have occurred, whereas I've also known children who've had their natural self-expression stifled by excessive use of 'time-outs' (a.k.a. JG's 'naughty step').

That doesn't mean that I'm an advocate of physical punishment. But it does mean that anyone who assumes that 'Supernanny' knows all of the answers doesn't fully understand children. There are times when JG clearly indicates a complete lack of understanding of developmental psychology.
JG?

You've got me doing it now!

When we see eg., football players getting awards for whatever, I do feel that Jo better deserves some kind of recognition for her outstanding effort.
Having poorly assisted my two wives (although I did financially)-physically or emotionally in bringing up four kids -now adults- no, I still know precious little about parenting, which is why I have such great admiration for people like Jo Frost....
I wish I knew when I was bringing mine up what I know now. Might have made a better fist of it. Most of us do the best we can I suppose and then hope they turn out OK. Mine did I'm relieved to say as it wasn't always easy. I didn't get an OBE either though:-(
She does what 1000's of women do every single day of their lives without reward but for love

Why on earth does she warrant a special award I don't know
Question Author
I DO appreciate that many women carry out these tasks daily and yes- you all deserve recognition for that, but-I've seen Jo come up with many ingenious psychological reconciling methods for many families in dire straits with their children that I feel she does so with personal emotional involvement beyond her paid call of duty and for that deserves recognition as a footballer does for scoring 'x' amount of goals in a season.
I'm with you on the footballer ones, believe me

But, on JF, never.

Again, many 1000's of women and Childcare providers use all manner of methods, well beyond those that JF uses to enable harmony within families and playrooms, nurseries etc etc
Using phrases such as " ingenious psychological reconciling" is moot as she has no formal qualifications what so ever, including the fact she has no children

And for someone with no qualifications, she is paid handsomely, shame the rest of us are not recognised in such a way
