Car insurance for young drivers
We are looking around to insure a car for our 17 year old son. Done the usual searches on the comparison sites but just wondered if anyone knows of any reputable insurers that do reasonable deals for younger drivers. Many thanks in advance.

The only way you can reduce the premium is to add yourself as a driver (but you need to be careful how you do it, otherwise if you are seen to be fronting the policy, the insurance is void). Put "young drivers" in the red search box to see what else comes up.
Don't expect to see any change out of £3000 possibly as much as £5000 .
Teenage drivers are rightly seen as very high risk, over 1 in 3 will have an accident serious enough to need a claim inside the first year.
It is worth him taking and getting a 'Pass Plus' certificate, this is an extra course that teaches motorway and night driving as well as basic car maintanance. Almost all driving schools do it, it cost £150 but it is possible to get a discount on insurance that will more than pay the cost .

The best think to do is to look into getting a tracker fitted to your car. It allows the insurer to see that you are a competant driver and as far as i know you can make certian agreements with the insurer that will bring the price down ie. only drive between 9 and 6. My friend has just done this and his insurance dropped from £3000 to £1500.
My post here (particularly the second link) might help a bit:
