Well if its an SS day centre then SS will need to know about the person and agree that the day centre is suitable for her needs. I don't think you can just do it through the day centre manager. There may also be a waiting list and sometimes charges are made on a siding scale according to income so a financial assessment (confidential) might be needed. You can decline this bit i think that then you are charged at the top rate. This is how it works in Hampshire.

Contact your local Age Concern, they run luncheon day clubs. I volunteer at one and we have several clients who come to give their carers a break.
