recording from BBC1 and BBC2 channels on my Panasonic recorder from my Samsung TV. TV is about 3 years old and recorder about 2. Instead of the list of programmes to choose from I just get "No Data". This just happens when I want to record; if I want to watch any BBC1/2 programme I can. Has anybody any idea what to do? Should I retune again, would that help? Thanks.

You could try restoring to factory settings or shipping settings. This will completely wipe the system as if you were first taking it out of the box. Then tune it from scratch. Also there may be an option in there to turn off automatic updates so that you have to manually add new channels.

Yes I did proper retunes ginge and perhaps it is catching up but you'd think it would do it all in one go wouldn't you?
Flob the destructions as I was doing the retune told me not do the shipping settings so I didn't. I'll see how long this new channel business goes on for and if it carries on I may do as you suggest.
Thank you to both of you. Oh here we go again! Another one.
.
There might be an option somewhere not to be advised of new channels.

I think there is hopkirk thanks, but I'm not sure I want to stop them - I don't want to miss anything. Once a week is fine but I've never known anything like this before. I've copied down the number of channels, 72 for TV, 24 Radio and 16 Data. Next time I will see if they increase after I've done it.
"The only caveat is the lack of a second Freeview tuner"

This excerpt from the link you gave is why I am puzzled because if your machine has only one tuner it cannot receive two channels simultaneously. I assume that your machine is not exactly as described in the link, and in fact has two tuners.

Mike I do understand what you are saying and I repeat that when researching recorders, on an av site, posters/users were saying the same as you, ie that you can't watch one programme and video another. Some of these posts were from people who had already bought it and were complaining about it. Then another posted that they were all wrong and you can watch one and record another and one by one they all cottoned on. So I went ahead and bought it (DMR-EX79) and yes, he was right, you can. So you are not the only person to be puzzled it. Trouble is it was 2009 when I got it and I can't remember exactly what was said but it was something like - you need to watch it, or tune it (not sure which), through the TV. And as I said my friend set it up without any trouble and it was fine. Thank you so much for trying to help though.
The new channels you are being advised of are probably foreign language radio stations, soft porn channels and gay dating channels. New ones appear all the time.

That's interesting, the count isn't going up after I retune. It's stayed at 72, 24, 16, for 2 retunes now. So no extra porn Hopkirk:-(
