If you abolish something it ceases to exist. If something doesn't exist it doesn't require a name.
no ! it should be scrapped for private vehicles and the cost added to petrol then all those fiddling the car tax would have to pay it,this should should not be applied to commercial transport for obvious reason
diesel too i might add
I agree with deggers not only would it stop the dodgers, all foreign cars entering the country would pay. It would also mean that you did not get off cheaply if you have a small car but do massive mileage
Yes it should and the government's recent idea of road tolls should be adopted. Then the vehicles that use the roads most frequently would pay the most and companies could have a scheme whereby their contribution is capped according to the number and size of vehicle they have.
Foreign vehicles would be subject to this toll whereas they use UK roads FOC at the moment.
I have said for years that road tax should be abolished and the price of fuel increased to compensate. It would be fair to all . I know people , mainly pensioners, who only drive 1000 miles or less in a year, at the moment they pay as much road tax as someone who does 2000 miles in a week.
petrol is expensive enough TVM - how much per litre would you want to add to it?

Toll roads and more of them
I thought the price of fuel had already increased!!!
I agree with the petrol increase and scrapping road tax.............however it would hit folk who live in the country so maybe not. A lot of villages don't now have a train or bus service.
I don't mind paying for a decent road surface, that's what the road tax was for but is there any? & that includes the Motorways, the motorist gets ripped off the day he / she byes a car.

what i want to know is if its called road tax why is it some cars are zero or very low priced tax so they do not pay for roads although they use them
If they did away with road tax and use toll roads I wouldn't mind too much because I'm sure they wont be able to but tolls on all the small country back lanes I use to go work and back in my car. Only problem is everyone else will be avoiding the toll roads and clogging up all the country lanes and small villages to save on the cost.
