How to edit a song?

I have a recording from my band's rehearsal that I need to edit for enhanced quality and some effects. Is there a way I can quickly do it and what software is needed for that?

I recommend you this website for downloading a really good editor that is capable of doing that and much, much more - try it out, and you will be able to experiment with your tracks and make new ones right on your computer.

Unless you have separate tracks recorded for each instument and vocal then don't even bother trying.
It won't be quick as there is a significant learning curve in any audio editing system.
The step from sounding good to yourselves while you play to a good recorded sound is huge. Most beginners are disappointed with any attempt to record because they simply are not skilled nor tight enough as musicians and have not recorded in a suitable environment with suitable multitrack equipment using quality microphones and setups.
If you want to do this seriously then get the right gear and be patient enough to learn what you are doing both as musicians and as sound engineers.
I would recommend you download Reaper.
