Traditional manicure vs gel manicure

If your own nails are long and strong enough, you won't need them, don't have gel nails. They aren't good for your nails and you will have to grow them out.

I had gel nails done last year for a wedding. They were perfect and didnt start growing out for over 2 weeks. When they started growing out I went back for an "infill"
smurf - you dont have to grow them out. The manicurist removed mine with a soaking solution. My own nails underneath were fine.

I do have nice nails, thank you. I didn't mean gel extensions, but when I went to book a manicure, I was told they were going to stop doing the traditional type of manicure and just use the gel type as people seem to prefer them. They last for longer and dry straight away, and are meant to last for at least 2 weeks. I'm always a bit apprehensive about change!

I'd give it a go. They don't chip and look as good as new after 2 weeks

personally i found that because they have to rough up the nail to get the gel to stick, it does ruin your nails. However, if your nails are prone to breaking the gels will protect them

Are you alking about that Shellac stuff, a few people I know have this done and they are quite impressed. Undercoat of stuff, followed by 2 coats of the colour, then a top coat and lasts about 2 weeks.

Could I ask how much you pay for the manicure. Atm my nails are breaking and ridged, I may take the plunge for my holiday next month.

I had my first ever manicure last week and opted for shellac. You can't get it everywhere, but I am really pleased with the result. It lasts a bit longer - one minor chip after 6 days and that's where I used my nail to open something I shouldn't have! The nail underneath is unaffected but you do have to go back to have it removed.
