I usually do six GK xwords every Sunday and mail them. Been doing that for more than 25 years. However, I think that, with today's announcement of huge rises in stamp prices from April 30, my crosswording activities will stop from that date. What do others think?
Same here .It's been a hobby of mine for donkeys years .I spend a lot on postage every week .I also write a lot of letters .
I'll just have to pick and choose what I send in.
It's a big hike really .I think newspaper publications will see a drop in entries .
60p for a first class stamp - that's 12/- per stamp.
When I were a lad that would be 6 Biggles books or 4 and a bit grown up books.
They are shooting themselves in the foot because millions of people will simply stop posting letters as you are considering doing and there will not be sufficient volume of post to keep it going
I have been buying extra books of stamps in preparation of the price rise.
So long as the stamps just say 1st classs or second class --( as most of the books of stamps do nowadays)--- you can buy at todays prices and still use them after the price increase. I thought they would go up on 1st April but since you have heard its the 30th April I have time to buy a few more books at the current prices. Like you I do several crosswords on a Sunday but once I am hit with the increase I will have to stop doing so many.
No, Sir.Prize, they're not. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some papers didn't rethink that should their volume of entries collapse (as I suspect they will).
