whats what all about? it sounded like most of the audience booed him when he said he was german!

do we, as a nation, generally, still have an issue with germans because of the war? after all this time? really?

i am shocked that such a large amount of people instantly booed... i could imagine one or 2 people...or rather, idiots ... doing it - to be greeted with a silent room but that many people?

Yes I live abroad and I've seen them, which is what prompted my answer, mine you maybe we only get the scum here. In all truth all the other nationalities are much better behaved.

I definitely think the audience boo'd in this case because the uy is German, not simply foreign. It was a disgraceful thing to have happened and made me ashamed to be British.

Simon tried to shut them up and said' that was a long time ago!' meaning the war.also nobody under about 86 years old had anything to with the war, it's history.

Cath's comment really just sums up the british mentality and perhaps answers the original question.
I've travelled quite a lot and we always try to get off the beaten track; I've always found people to be very welcoming and polite (with the exception of one occaision) even though I'm not very good at foreign languages, just phrase book stuff mostly.
It's the british who're rude and unwelcoming unless it's a so-called 'celebrity' in which case they fawn over them in a most embarrassing way.

It can only be assumed that the producers of this increasingly cruel and contrived excuse for a talent show instruct the audience beforehand on the types of reactions, facial expressions etc they should use at any given moment. The incident in question was appalling and shameful to witness and such behaviour can only demean the UK and it's standing in the world. Simon Cowell's dismissive reaction of "...that was a long time ago, we're friends now" was also pathetic and inexcusable. I shall be making my official complaint to the regulating authority and, like I am sure many people, sincerely hope that he (SC) and the producers are forced to make a formal and public apology.

I read that this guy does live in Germany and came over for the show, but yes, I was shocked at the booing, couldn't understand it at all.
