Cigarettes on Display in Supermarkets....

Went to Tesco yesterday and there were sliding plastic screens hiding the tobacco, is this the new law the government brought in?

Cant see it making any difference to regular smokers IMO!

Its the new law trt. went to co-op today and they've got the thing with no ciggies on show. Lots of shops I've been in are all the same now

Apparently supermarkets have to do it now and your local shop in a couple of years. The cigarette selling lady in my local Tesco isn't happy

It won't make a difference to smokers but it might, just might, stop a youngster starting.

How times have changed. In the 60s if you wanted condoms the hairdresser would fetch them from a back cupboard in a brown envelope. Now they are beside the sweetie counter!

Our Tesco should have a screen over the front of the whole kiosk. Never before have I seen such a collection of old fish wives...

'Out of sight out of mind' I don't think the hardened smokers will be deterred but if it just deteres one person a day maths tells you how many in a year.

Cigarette factory people will be losing their jobs too.

Children do not buy cigarettes from supermarkets, they use corner shops where the proprietor is not so fussy about sticking to the letter of the law.

It should affect impulse purchasing

It continues the process of distancing smoking from 'normal' behaviour

If anyone suggests it won't affect sales, ask any shopkeeper how they would feel if more of their wares had to be taken off the shelves where they can be seen and the packaging and pos materials can do their job and instead be hidden away out of sight!

I think corner shops have got another year to display cig's etc,Keep an eye on Rita & Norris's shop on Corrie because they will be PC.

I saw a man in the street today smoking a pipe. It struck me that it is ages since I last saw a man with a pipe. Mine is lying forgotten in a drawer. Must get it out sometime.

Best way to get people to stop (or not start) is to make them £50 a pack. Lets see how many people who claim they can stop when they like still find the money.

the new 'going dark' law comes in 6th april, at work I have been training all the staff on the new legislation, it is complicated and our working practices have had to change as we can't replenish the gantry when customers are in the store which means doing it before opening which means me doing it before the staff get in which is very annoying as i have enough to do already.
