Our PC was running really slowly due to the amount of crap my son has down loaded. I've gone through and uninstalled everything I knew wasn't needed, mainly toolbars, search engines, games etc. Now it won't connect to the internet. It's not wireless so is plugged directly into the router. Could I have uninstalled something important? It's running on Windows Vista. Any other info needed?

Also I unticked everything from the start up menu, because it was taking so long to start, could that have anything to do with it?

I'd guess you've possibly uninstalled the network adaptor software and drivers.

Have a look in the device manager and see if the network adapter is listed as working or not.

Thanks Chuck. It's working now. I'm not sure what I did but it's much much faster.

Could it have something to do with the start menu?

VHG - Well, as it's working without having to re-install anything I'll stick with KNEW was not needed.

Hi Ron, I was posting from my laptop. The PC is what the kids use. They are not allowed to use this because of the amount of crap they download :-)
