Hiya guys, Got a 98 Yamaha xj 600. Battery was flat so i charged it and ran it round the block but as i pulled up outside our house the whole lot went dead. ignition lights and everything. Battery was definitely good but i changed it anyway as i had a spare. ive checked the little fuse box under the seat and traced all the wires i can see for breaks and rubbing but im stumped. it was literally as though someone flicked a switch and it died. Any ideas very gratefully received

Cheers folks

My initial thoughts are dodgy battery connections, blown in-line fuse (if it has one), or faulty battery. If the latter then it probably held some charge long enough to get the bike running for a while, then gave up the ghost. Try charging it again and see what happens.

Thanks for the answer, couldnt see any fuses other than the main fuse box and the replacement battery is a brand new gel pack one. Maybe a break in the loom somewhere. Baffled...
The next thing I'd try is to get my voltmeter/multimeter out and work along the wiring loom...starting at the battery and working out. Easier said than done I know as it's not always easy to get to every connector in turn.
