Just had a ton of plum slate delivered. Chap said it would look lovely when it was washed. He gave me a sideways look when I asked him if that wouldn`t bu99er up the washing machine. Anyway, going like the clappers now to get it down before the hosepipe ban. Any volunteers?

If you want sideways looks and rolled eyes for our sense of humour commoner try living in Canada. Lovely people but I came close to deportation more than once. Sun`s out. Back to slate.
Just leave it out in the rain (if we ever get any).
Question Author
The amount of rain we get here Canary I`d do better employing the local kids to spit on it.
My son lives in Canada and on one visit we went to play golf on an Indian(sorry Native Canadian) reservation.......my lad threatened me with violence and worse if I came up with any "topical" jokes...mmm....and I just wanted to wear an arrow through my hat!...well, maybe he had something there?

N. As RW said but presently being called "pain in the bum plum slate." May have been a tad over enthusiastic when I ordered a ton. Question is....do I haul it round the back for another feature or.......start a neighbourhood cairn in the front garden?
Scallops can be got and daughter in West Country is sending cider.
Taking my back off for an acupuncture session now.
lay it thicker than recommended.... and keep some to top off containers... set aside an area of flowerbed for a scree garden and put the slate there with alpines growing though it in little pockets of bare soil...
Question Author
Thank you Rowan. Back garden slopes so a scree garden area would be nice. Hadn`t thought of that. Have just used old patio slabs to make a path at the bottom so I guess I could surround those with slate rather than the pebbles I was going to buy.
better to keep it all the same and spend the money you were going to spend on pebbles on some larger chunlks of slate as a decorative feature
