Cat wee

Can anyone recommend what is the best solution for clearing up cat wee on a carpet.

I have tried various disenfectant, bleach, vinegar etc etc and the bad smells still remains.

Lindy66, not sure where you live but here in the US we have cleaners with bacterial enzyme odor eliminator's that grab hold of the odor causing agents and take them away with it as they evaporate. The best known brand is "Nature's Miracle", it has to be used correctly tho. If you can get ahold of this then you'll have to treat the area with water and soak up the access, because since you put harsh chemicals on the spot already, you'll need to dilute them from the area before trying to use the enzyme's. The reason is because when they go into the area to do their job, harsh chemicals sort of "attack" them and kill most of the "workers", then you have to reapply the enzyme again and again until enough "workers" are there to actually get the job done. And be generous in pouring it on the "spot", that spot may be bigger than you think, when the cat wee'd on the rug it went in and followed the carpet fibers, the spot may look only about the size of 1 inch by 1 inch, but under the carpet it went out to the size of about 1 ft by 1 ft or even larger, depending on how bad they needed to wee when they did it. And think about this, surface cleaning isn't always enough. If the mess has soaked through, you must pull up the carpet and clean or replace the padding below.

So find something with the enzyme's in it, I'm sure someone who lives in the same country can maybe give you a tip on what they get or know about, I write this to help others that live here in the US that might read this thread. Good luck...

I've recently searched this very site for a similar product since being let down by the previously failsafe biological washing powder method. I have heard a few people reporting that 'Simple Solution' from Pets at Home is brilliant - it's currently doing its thing right now, if it fails I shall let you know!

Use a strong solution of Bicarb Soda on the stain or if you have a bottle of soda water use that, either way this will neutralise the smell.

My vet used to sell a liquid odour eliminator shampoo which I used after my cat had fouled my car upholstery. It did (mostly) get rid of the smell but left its own odour which, whilst less distasteful meant I still had to drive around with the car windows open for days. Cat urine is a particularly difficult smell to eliminate in my opinion.

I agree that the odour of cat urine is hard to eliminate, but this is especially true if the cat is not neutered. Neutered cats (both males and females) emit much less odour with their urine.

Do not use bleach on cat pee, bleach has a similar chemical in it (is it amonnia???) that only makes the smell worse....

dont use bleech or other strong disinfectants on cat urine , they smell like urine to the cat and encourages them to keep going there. the best thing to use is bilogical wasing powder then spray with dilluted surgical spirit.Also if you cant stop the cat from going in the same place cover the area with a cat litter tray linned with a peice of carpet.
