Weird Cat

My cat has always been a bit mad, always loved his food and asked for more, but is going through a phase where he doesn't finish it. he always leaves a bit in the bowl and asks for more, why is this? He's driving me crazy but I love him .. He's getting old now, he's 11 by the way. Always been a foodie, only thing on his mind apart from sleeping. And he doesn't seem to want to be in the garden any more, even on these warm days he wants to come in and eat and sleep. Is this his age ?

He would not finish his food, but would jump on the side and try and eat leftovers, but then he would be sick. It was like he couldnt finish his food but was still hungry. We thought for a long time he was just being fussy but we eventually learned that his gut had become paralised and so he was unable to digest anything.
Mine often leave a bit of meat, because they want some biscuit. Try him with a few biscuits sprinkled on what's left. He's 11 but it's not old - our appetites do change, same as cats' do. Perhaps his sense of taste is not so good - are you feeding him senior cat food, which has extra vitamins for the older cat, and smells stronger, IMO.
My late James exhibited similar symptoms as described by mandimoo. Turned out he had stomach ulsers. Despite best efforts funded by PetPlan he continued to deteriorate until last Summer the kindest thing was to have him put to sleep.
The house is not the same without James. We had a barbecue last weekend, came to take the lazy Suzy out of the hot press and it was full of mouse droppings. James would never have allowed this. The surrender-monkey of a moggy we have now is on a final written warning. All he does is sleep and play with bottle tops.

Usually its just a ploy to persude the humans to provide something more interesting just keep an eye on him for a few days...11 is considered old for a cat but they can easily live to 20 plus I'd be a bit concerned if he can't be tempted to play though so try an idiot string if he chases it he's probably ok
