Every time i get rid of an electrical appliance that no longer works my other half insists, I keep the plug why ? all appliances come complete with plug attached and he isnt thinking of safety reasons for cutting it off before leaving it out for the dustman, we have a shed with all these plugs in it and he wont have them thrown out.It baffles me !

Dee sa your post reminds me of the Michael Mcintyre show when he does the man drawer thing full of old batteries, fuses and allen keys don't know if you've ever seen it but I think he's so funny.
I still have some plugs from the days before everything came with a moulded plug.
Are kids taught how to wire a plug in school anymore? I was!
gness, this might be like what you had in mind:

Perfect bb! Just what I want. My imagination is on a roll.
Someone mentioned fuses, open up an old plug to get the fuse, why is it that 13amp ones are as common as **** but 3amp and 5amp ones, are very scarce?
It could be a hangover from the days when electric appliance were sold without plugs, just as battery-driven games etc. were sold without batteries. Many a Christmas morning was spoiled by this practice as parents bought gifts but forgot to buy the plugs or batteries - and ALL shops were closed over the Christmas period.
Because when you've got two 5amp and one 3amp ones together in a draw they meld into a 13amp one. :-)
That's 'shocking' in fact it is re 'volting'.
Tee hee!!
I've just found a box of miscellaneous leads, chargers, adaptors. No idea what they are for. I think I might just chuck them. They've been in the spare room for at least 2 years so they can't be that useful. these were hoarded by Mr BM.
same here,also nuts/bolts etc

i do the same - because i am not wasteful...
my mum used to sell them in her shop -and probably sold a few a day... so there is most definitely a need for spare plugs
Its not just a man thing but a generation thing. He must be over 50 and remembers the days when you needed a plug for every new appliance you bought.

Unfortunately they won't come in handy anymore and he should be encouraged to clear them out to make way for the spare power leads, mice and chargers which won't ever come in handy either!
