They already have to disclose all their earnings and expenses from their parliamentry affairs.
The question is whether they should be forced to make public their earnings from other work like paid directorships, income from investments etc.
You and I certainly don't have to make our earnings public knowledge nor do other civil servants but the argument is that they should because of their unique position as law makers.
I can see the argument either way

TWR, no it’s not to a point. The rules were only changed because the corrupt system was exposed by the media when Labour were in office – and as far as I’m aware, MPs are still not required to provide receipts for expense claims under a certain amount. I have no objection to whatever expenses any of them claim, or to what they earn, outside their parliamentary business – that is between them and whatever organisation they have an agreement with - and contrary to popular belief, there are millionaires on both sides of the house - but I do object to my money being spent without the provision of proof of the legitimacy of every expense claim – and without each and every one of them being properly accounted for.
naomi, so you want every police officer, fireman, civil servant, social worker, refuse collector, road sweeper, librarian, NHS nurses, doctors, porters, caterers; council office clerk,.....to disclose their base wage, overtime, sick pay, mileage allowance, housing allowance, (yes, some do get it) to declare their income and pension benefits?
