Well it varies for each person, but a general benchmark is to start going out with people in a friendly way whenever YOU feel ready. If you like this boy and he's more or less the same age as you, why not go out and do somthing fun?

You don't say how old you are but why consider time spent together has to be a date ? Can't friends of different gender spend fun time together without having to label it ?
