(i) Protestor in the water stops the race when OX leading
(ii) OX break an oar on restart in the 1st 100m - deemed OX fault and they have to row with seven, therefore loss to Cambridge
(iii) OX bow collapses and no one notices for 3 to 4 minutes....

Some drama......

The ref was right to do what he did.....the rules are pretty explicit about the penalties of coming off-station and Oxford were deemed to be off-station.

Shame about the ijiut though as it was brewing up to be a good one.

However, he may have done the Olympic organisers a big favour as to alerting them to such idiots.

It's not the first time this form of 'political' protest has happened at a UK national event, go back to the Suffragettes and the Derby 1913, when Emily Davison threw herself in front of King George V's horse and killed herself.
This Irishwoman loves the boat race. Sad about what happened but admirable behaviour from Cambridge. Love it when the English show their true sportsmanship.
Best thing that could have happened to that idiot is getting clouted by an oar, bloody clown.
Yes I thought all concerned behaved well although I must say Cambridge could afford to be magnanimous in victory.
Oxford cox should have stopped the rowing. The race would then be null & void.
Does anyone understand the protestors statement? Can you explain in simple English!
