I have a mature beech hedge which I keep trimmed to 4ft high but which has developed large gaps closer to the ground. I would like to fill in these gaps. Can I plant cuttings taken from the hedge and, if so, how and when? Many thanks.

Doesn't propagate very well from cuttings RHS recommends growing from seed I'd look at pulling down and pegging some lower branches either side of the gaps or buying a few new saplings
