shifting the pounds?
14 Answers
Mr cupid and I started dieting about 5 weeks ago. We were both advised to by
our doctor. The question I want to ask is do you ladies and gents over 50
find it more difficult to shift the pounds as opposed to someone much younger. My
husband has lost about 6 pounds and I've only lost about 2. I admit we don't
stick to the diet rigidly and we both get grumpy because we miss the take-
aways and the cakes. We are on the Rosemary Connoly diet and I dread the
weigh-ins. We do the aerobics class as well. My daughter who is only 32 has
lost a stone and a half on the same diet. It is a very low fat diet and we are
both struggling. We should have lost at least half a sone or more by now. Any
tips would be welcome.

I have not lost any discernable weight but my waist has reduced by one inch and my hips by half an inch. I eat and drink whatever I like but then again I don't like cake and biscuits. Why don't you both go for a brisk walk each day and see if that helps.

Nope.
In winter I put on weight. In spring I start walking - 20 minutes a day is all. I can lose 6 pounds in a fortnight without dieting, or any particular effort. Exercise (IMHO) is always better than dieting (unless you eat like a pig, of course).

Good for you 10Clarion and congratulations.
I have cut out cakes and biscuits. I have cut down on cheese (always used to eat too much of that) and cut down on bread. I'm eating plenty of fruit and veg and suplementing it with rice, potatoes and wheat cakes. I don't eat sweets or drink alcohol so I'm OK there, but I do need to get more active.

As I've posted elsewhere-I eat low carb now. I started in Feb of last year, and lost 22lbs by May. I've maintained since then...and I eat plenty. I am 65 later this year...and found it the easiest way to lose. I eat good, healthy food-including butter...no processed carbs.
I only walk the dog-no other painful exercise.

Thanks for all your answers.we've already cut out chips, take-aways and cakes.
I admit to liking the odd biscuit with my cup of tea.We both keep intending to
do more walks, but the weather has been so cold recently. I know we both
need more will-power which we are lacking a bit at the moment. It's much
harder to lose weight than put it on. Might try swimming later with a friend.
mr. cupid is not a fan of swimming.
