I hate women who complain about being a size 10 ( the operative word there being "complain"). It's rather like telling me that my aspiration for a four star Caribbean cruise and a Range Rover is their equivalent of a pedalo ride at Weston Super Mare and a push bike. I was so happy to have preserved what was left of my figure after my second baby, and was monumentally destroyed when a friend complained to me that she was devastated as she found herself in Primark fitting into a size 10! Well we all have dreams sweetheart!

Of course the only difference between me and Kate Moss is a few pounds . . . ( let's say 50 ish) and a few inches (nothing a good pair of Jimmy's wouldn't fix). And yes I could make it into a size 10 one day . . . with industrial strength laxatives, some bone removal surgery and the dust and steam diet ( as seen in Heat).

What I don't understand and the reason for my rant is the following:

I took 10 pairs of size 10 jeans (Bootcut) from a variety of high street stores and found following results:
40% did fit (without any grimacing, shoe horning and emergency stitching)
30% were like trying to squeeze toothpaste back into a tube (it just ain't gonna happen)
10% required a little coaxing!
20% were rather generous around the hips.

What's going on? What stores do you favour for optimistic sizes ;-)

Love reading your posts Nelly :-)

This might explain why some fit and some didnt- some shops just aint caught up yet ;-)

I'm the same size in all the shops I go in to.... But I have a very low threshold for clothes shopping so probably only use about three regularly!
A Primark size 10 is a size 18 in any other shop.
This made me laugh. I'm definitely thinner in some shops than others. Monsoon is particularly good at persuading me that I'm still skinny.
Same with Wallis. It's to coax you into buying...
Well I am going to be the one you hate then. I am size 8, occassionally a 10 and quite happy if I buy a 10 but sick of going into shops and finding their 8's too big when I can find them. If sizing was standard and accurate I would be a very happy size 10.

I luurve Gap jeans they seem to accommodate my chunky thighs exceptionally well. Plus because they seem to be in American sizes I can walk around in them with the smug knowledge that the label reads a size 6! However any other shop I gotta try them on I'm anything from a 14-10 (only in Gap) ;-) i think my thighs are the issue if I'm honest.
I'm with you on Gap Nelly. Their size 10 fit me perfectly (after I've worn them a couple of hours). I'm a 12 everywhere else.
I seem to be a size 12 jeans/trousers in most shops these days. Oh how I miss the days of being a standard size 8 a couple of years ago!
im size 6/8....if i buy monsoon or (i think) zara size 4 fits me lovely, other labels i cant get a size 8 over my head or over my thighs depending what it is..... bloody stupid.....

I am horrified at the article vanity sizing! That's scary! Anyone else also find that F&F tesco small? Even baby gros and kids clothes seem a little snug!

I've decided that being a size 10 (well . . . When I achieve it) is NOT a crime against humanity and I will be making a concerted effort to lose my last few baby pounds, as soon as all the Galaxy choc egg has been eaten, along with the catering size pack of hot cross buns and the rest of the Easter cake ;-)
i think tescos range is one that i have to get a size 10 in.... and im not sure but think per uno (whatever its called) is too.... i work in a charity shop and its unbelievable the difference in sizes...... you really notice when you have a heap of dresses or whatever to label all different makes but apparently same size
Seems to be mens sizes as well, for years I was an XL in most clothes but now, even though I've put on two stone, I'm a Medium.
Tried to buy some shoes the other day. A pair of Six-and-a-half were too big, a pair of 8 were too small.
Went home empty-handed.
Or empty-footed.
I bought 2 identical dresses (in 2 different colours) from Marks & Spencer. One fitted like a glove, the other swamped me.
I never used to have to bother trying their clothes on as I thought I knew which size fitted me, but I do now
most of my clothes are size 22 some 24s and a few 20s Wedding dress fitting Size 30 skinny sister (8-10) tried them on needed a 16-18 great idea lets ruin the brides day with a size label she will get really depressed about
And if you're a plus size Evan's sizing will make you at least one size smaller than you would be in, say BHS or M&S but they'' charge you heavily for your vanity
That wouldn't depress me if I knew it was only that one place I required that size. In the same way I don't kid myself I am really a size 8 just because thats the size of clothes I have to get from Primark.
What is size 10? (only sour grapes)
