My daughter bought a car and registered it with the DVLA as ' acquired vehicle on 12/10/2004 '
I later ' bought' it from her and changed the registered keeper to my name .
I have noticed that the ' acquired vehicle date ' on the Registration document still appears as ' 12/10/2004 ' , when in fact it was a few years later , when i took the vehicle from her and changed the registered keeper to my name .
I have been using this date of 12/10/04 , when taking out car insurance in the past , as the date i bought the vehicle .
1.How significant to the insurer , is the date that you advise the insurer that you bought the vehicle - would it invalidate the insurance , if i now tell my current insurer that the 12/10/04 date is not correct .
2. Should i bother informing them of the date I ' bought ' the vehicle - which i would have to estimate , as i cannot remember the exact date ?
1.not significant in itself but will be used as ammo in the event of a claim.
2. Yes, but why is it wrong on the V5? I'd get it corrected at DVLA then inform the insurer, I can't see it making any difference to premium etc.
I don't think I've ever been asked when I acquired the car by an insurer. I don't see why it would matter? It matters how long you have held insurance, and it matters how old the car is. I don't see what odds it makes when you bought it.
