TV Licence

should this be in TV, don't know, but does anyone have a problem paying for their TV Licence. I have tried 8 paypoint outlets, as you can't pay at the post office now, and not one would accept payment by debit card, they all said cash only. I Don't want to pay by direct debit, nor pay on line. So it's a case of the cheques in the post. Why don't they accept debit cards, after all it says so on the licence renewal form. I am seriously miffed.

Rich, ok now my face has gone back to its normal colour, sort of off puce,
i have had problems with companies taking money out of the account that they shouldn't by direct debit, and not just once, so am very wary. The butler says hello, and how are the wilds of Scotland. Its a bit autumnal down here, but i guess we are into september almost, but it's still sad that summer seems to be passing us by. Did you watch the Edinburgh Tattoo on the telly, i must say it gives shivers down the spine watching it, especially the lone piper.

Indeed, i have watched it time and again, and still the same feeling, it's very primeval, is that an odd word to use, like something that is in your genes, must be the more poetic Irish side talking.. I did see something similar in London, The Royal Tournament, which was spectacular, and was in Edinburgh one year when they had a festival, and the pipe bands were marching and playing up a storm. Not for the Tattoo, but perhaps thats another thing to add to the todo list.

My local Spar supermarket has Paypoint and they have the same about TV licence being cash only.

Scotman, so not the only one. I don't know why we can't use the postoffice, it was quick and simple.

Shops get paid a small amount for every Paypoint transaction they handle but they also have to pay the banks for every debit card transaction which they handle. If the payment to the bank exceeds the income from Paypoint, it's not hard to see why they won't accept debit cards for Paypoint transactions!

However my local Co-op accepts debit cards for my fortnightly TV Licence payments.

Yearly You automatically pay the full TV Licence fee of £145.50 in one go.

Monthly*

You'll usually pay for your first licence within six months, in instalments of around £24 per month. (If we have to spread the cost into four or five monthly instalments, the cost may be slightly higher). From then on, you pay for your licences in 12 monthly instalments of just over £12 - six before your licence is due and six after.

Quarterly* You pay instalments of around £37 every three months. By paying quarterly the majority of your licence is paid for on a pay-as-you-go basis. This differs from our other instalment schemes, where at least half of the licence fee is collected in advance. As a result, quarterly payments incur a small premium of £1.25 per quarter which is included in your payment

DF im not quite awake yet, i did read through your post but the problem i highlighted seems to have gone by some people, that if the tv licence, a mega rip off, can't be paid by using a debit card, then i am being forced to pay by a method i don't want. If the paypoint outlets won't accept debit cards, for whatever reason, then what's the point of having them. I have now sent a cheque, but confess that the whole thing has hacked me off.
