I'd have to vote for siges answer in that the original Sea World in San Diego has a lot of charm besides beign buried in, perhaps, the best medim-largish city in the U.S.
Secondly, I'd highly recommend Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado. Elitch's (as it's known locally), is about 100 years old, sits on 70 acres and still retains the flower, shrub and other plantings that prompted the 'Garden' part of the name. Lots of great places to eat, always new rides and great name enterntainment. It's in the northwest section of Denver and the Colorado Rocky Mountains in the distant background just sets it off!

I'm tempted to state the obvious that Washington D.C. is the consumate 'theme park', but that's too snide... apologies.
Fact is there are some rather good nes near there...
1. Six Flags - http://dc.about.com/o...vities/a/SixFlags.htm
2. King's Dominion - http://dc.about.com/o...s/a/KingsDominion.htm
3. Hersheypark - Hershey, Pennsylvania - http://dc.about.com/o...rk-Visitors-Guide.htm (the kids love this one due to the relaitonship to Hershey Chocolate)...
