Will a caution stop me being hired?
2 Answers
I recently got a caution for possession of a Class A drug. I was tested for drug use at the station and, as I don't take drugs, tested negative.
I recently got a job at a TV channel in the UK and provided them with documents to do a background check (CRB) on me - I gave the permission the day before I got the caution.
I start the job tomorrow and I imagine the CRB check will be this week. Does anyone know what will show up? And if I will instantly be dismissed? Any answers much appreciated!

I assume you were guilty of possession and were offered the possibility of a caution, which is an admission of guilt. The CRB check may or may not reveal your caution at this stage but any subsequent checks will reveal the existence of a caution, some employers require an annual CRB check.

Do you know you will be dismissed for this, presumably when you made your application you did not have this caution so cannot be accused of obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception at application, but you may be if you do not now disclose the caution.

Thanks for the reply tony.. but I guess what I'm asking is if anybody knows if it is common for companies like, for example ITV, to not take on an employee if they find out they have a caution for previous drug possession. I'm struggling to understand why a caution is much less worth than a conviction if both show on a CRB check anyway.
