Removing Grout

At the moment we are re-doing our kitchen. My partner however left the grout on the tiles for too long and now they are 'bumpy' and uneven. Any ideas on how to remove this? Thanks - Beth's Mum.

you could try a paint scraper from a diy store, they are like a razor blade in a plastic handle and are used to scrape paint off windows when you've been painting the window frames and have spilt it on the glass by accident.

There are chemical products made for this type of thing, they are usually some kind of acid which dissolves the cement grout without attacking the tiles, ask around in your local builder merchant or higher class DIY shop.

If you are talking about between the tiles then some smooth glass paper or rubbing down paper works well (ive had to do this myself) Oops

Wet it liberally with a sponge, then a scouring pad works for me. Some slightly abrasive liquid cleaner used gently for the stubborn bits.

I got grout off tiles using a scouring pad and some dry soap powder for stubborn bits (plus a bit of elbow grease).

I've just posted a similar question in Home & Garden. I was advised to try non-stick scouring pad - and it worked, with a LOT of elbow grease.

Try a steam cleaning device. It will soften the grout without damaging the tiles.
