Ummm if you really want to be a midwife try applying mature ish students are welcomed by most unis... If it helps I was 40 when I qualified as a nurse and a woman in the group ahead of mine was 53

Layabout would be preferable. Although I always fancied making high quality wooden furniture. I think it would be quite satisfying. Trouble is I'd like to have been intelligent enough (and rich enough not to worry about the lack of income) to push forward the frontiers of science too, but I don't think I'd have made the grade. Ah but in the end I ought to train to be more ebnthusuastic about something, almost anything. Bit late in life now. Now I just need to train for retirement.
