Gar ( sounds like gare)

Thank you SANDYROE, WHARTON, FACTOR30 and DANNYK13.
But, anyone got any evidence that it is Gar?
?
Have you typed the clue exactly a sit appears, llamekuf.
I don't see GAR as meaning 'if'. It is usually GIN.
Express Wordnaster gives Scots for if as gif or gin ( neither of which sound like French for station i.e gare.
In my Scots Dictionary Gar is given thus

"an old fashioned or literary word meaning to make or cause someone to do something."
I think it's a typo. Gar also means filth or slime (substitute whiff for if?)
and it gives if as Gin
However the 'g' & 'r' are correct. The prize for this crossword is whisky, maybe the compiler has sampled some of the prize before this week's compilation!!
lol Wharton. You may have hit the nail on the head !
