Vocal Acrobatics

I'm watching The Voice and most of the contestants seem to be doing Mariah Carey style vocal acrobatics. I realise they want to show their range, but Lordy this type of singing and song is BORING. I'd never buy a CD with music like that on. Would you?

Hi flip - I can't stand all that warbling and wailing either. It's probably very talented if you can do it, but it does nothing for me. Bit like drum solos...

I`m not watching it but I know what you mean. There was a time when soul music was tuneful but now the singers just go off on their own tangent. I think Mariah Carey started it but Beyonce is the queen of vocal acrobatics. I have to turn the radio off when she comes on.

no, i like singers to sing clearly, though i confess i love opera and there are lots of vocal acrobatics in that, but not these types of singers, they get on my nerves.
