Ten deaths since 1981 - why aren't there calls to ban this race like there were for the Grand National?

People can choose to run or not run. I imagine that many thousands of people die per year running and jogging, you can hardly ban it because of that. I bet a few snuff it having sex as well...
As others have said, people make a choice to run. Quite simply, Horses don't have a choice.
Marathon sex......isn't that what Sting and his missus get up to?

Judging by her face it's not surprising.
Well said LL.
just goes to show when your times up.. your times up...whether you are a human being a horse or whatever...apparently she was only 30...r.i.p whoever she was...what a shame...
Ban armchairs, sofas and beds. That is where most people die.
And I do think a death of a young woman is no target for a cheap jibe.
I agree with Lottie. Horses don't have a choice - people do. You may as well ban anything that people want to do that presents any sort of risk - but it would be a miserable world.
Always thought that living was a risk.
How simply awful - just for the sake of collecting money for a good cause. Our thoughts are with her family.
Professional athletes arrest and sometimes die, it's just the chance you take.
You wouldnt need to ban it, just tell all the competitors that if they fall and break a leg they will be killed where they fall like the horses are!
I am truly sorry that a young woman has died doing the marathon. Do people suggest that every participant should see their doctor and get permission to run. Footballers go though stringent medicals, yet an Italian died this week on the pitch, and that young Brit who's name escapes me had a lucky call.
