Evening. Attempting to set up a wireless network for a friend.

Model no. F5D923
Belkin G+ mini router.

I have plugged the box into the pc and am picking up the wireless signal etc normally.

The problem is that I don't know the password. There's nothing on the box or the router (nor is there a handy card with the details on etc). What is the best way of working out the password, or resetting/changing it?

If your router is not new as has had a previous user then only way would be to reset the router. There should be a small hole with a pin hole button on the back that you push with a paper clip when the router has power. Press and hold for 5 seconds and release.

Click "Login" in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Since the router by default does not have an Administrator password just click "Submit" to log in. Media URL: http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30/~/how-do-i-create-an-administrator-password-for-my-router%3F

"If your router is not new as has had a previous user then only way would be to reset the router."

I was the previous owner. Sadly I couldn't remember the password.

I've yet to get the whole thing working, here's what has happened:

1. Reset router
2. Login to the admin page
3. Attempt to add security/password
4. Page crashes after submission
5. Can't log on with new selected password or into the admin page again.

I was trying to do it with my phone yesterday. It was fine for the first part, but once the page crashes there was nothing to be done!

I also couldn't get the PC which was plugged into the router to visit the admin page; how do I set up Windows 7 PC to connect to the network so I can do this? The network/connections manager is something I've not had to deal with much on Windows 7 and it feels quite different to XP.

I'm going round this evening again to give it another go. It dawned on me after I left that I could have been using a laptop with a wireless card to sort the admin page stuff... which may have been more successful.

To be completely clear the goal of setting this up is to access music etc from the main PC on:

1. Laptop
2. Phone
3. PS3
4. iPad

Any advice relating to getting these set up would also be welcome.

Try it in compatibility mode (if you're using IE)

"how do I set up Windows 7 PC to connect to the network"

It should just connect on a wired connection, there are two things I can think of that would stop this.

1) the computer has been set with a manually assigned IP address, to check this open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and look under local area connection for DHCP enabled. if it says yes then the network adapter properties will need to be set to obtain everything automatically.

2) the antivirus software needs to be told the IP range that router assigns is a trusted range.

How do I change the DHCP to yes/enabled?

Not much food nibble. Router says enabled, the pc says disabled.

Next question, for those whole like to get ahead, is how do I access files from one computer running XP to one running 7.

Found the answer to the DHCP issue. Not sure I've set the home network up correctly though.
