Well, there's my community act for the month.

We are isolated here, the farmland Church, some 2 miles away from its village, reflecting the old miner's community and now a ghost village.

It is a beautiful church and a pretty old one in Cornish terms. However, we have had our fair share of issues with lead nicked, antique furniture stolen, gravestones vandalised, the brand new vestry kitchen work surfaces damaged to the point that there had to be an insurance claim (thought to be lads from another nearby village who also drank the communion wine and half a bottle of scotch). Some one even prised the alms box out of the wall - and how much would there have been in that....peanuts.

As the news was on, these large pops kept coming in, as if somebody was close with a shotgun. As they got much closer, I went over and into the church yard. There were eight or nine youths (18-25ish) in three souped up cars, four or five were letting explosives off inside drinks cans, splintering them into bits.

Surprise being the element, they scarpered at high speed up the lane in the direction of the other village, their speed suggesting that they were up to no good.

Any way all reported to the Police, along with a car number plate, but I decided to come through 101 and they switched me to the incident line, taking some seven minutes to connect.

Anybody had similar experiences with 101?

That is very sad that people have no respect for the property of others and in the days of the local bobby, that lot would have had a good clip round the ear.

exactly, tenrec. It was certainly the way back in my day and with the appropriate light touch when it was an amusing prank. I do look back at University days and how they put up with us.....
