In my teens I read Monica Dickens - the Follyfoot stories.

When I was younger than that, I used to enjoy the Milly Molly Mandy stories. Then there was a book called Mr Popper's Penguins, that I remember I enjoyed but I can't remember who wrote it.

Oh .. Monica Dickens ! The Worlds End series was good too ,where everything was falling to bits. I remember those saxy_jag and I loved her other books which I read when I was a bit older ..One Pair of Hands ,One Pair of Feet and My Turn to make the Tea Brilliant ..she was very witty .
I loved the "Trixie Belden" series written by a number of authors. It was about Trixie who lived down the road from a wealthy family and a group of kids who have a club. Trixie always embroils them in one mystery or another. She was a Tomboy and more real than perfect haired, perfect boyfriend, Nancy Drew.
