( It is also the one that can often be indicative of strangulation, as apparently, this is one of the few ways to fracture the hyoid bone- often crops up in detective novels etc)
Technically no bones in the human body are connected directly to one another. You have ligaments which run from bone to bone to support the joints in the body. You have cartilage in between bones and fluid in the the major joints to stop them rubbing together.
