I don't seem to have much success with Adobe. I normally use Mozilla and had problems so I (think) I downloaded it on Internet Explorer. I can't open PDF files. Why is this and what can I do ? Thanks all, I'm not technical so easy answers only please ...

Adobe has to be installed to display a pdf in a browser ..
Mozilla Firefox for instance, uses a plugin called nppdf32.dll in it's profile folder.
I don't know how so many people complain about Adobe Viewer. Ver 10 is out and I have never had problems with it.
What happens when you try to open PDF files?
If you simply get a blank screen (within a Firefox window), the solution is to disable Adobe Reader from attempting to open PDFs within Firefox. You'll still be able to open them but they'll just be within an Adobe Reader window instead.

Go to Start > Programs and open Adobe Reader.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Internet
Click to remove the tick alongside 'Display PDF in browser'
Click 'OK' and close Adobe Reader.

Adobe is a COMPANY and sells lots of products. It is like saying "Microsoft needs to be installed".

What you need is Adobe Acrobat Reader (though there are other products that can read pdf files)

You can get it from here

http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
forget Adobe.
Install Foxit Reader, far better

OK I clicked on Adobe Reader X. It says 'Adobe Reader X cannot open in protected mode. Would you like to open with protected mode disabled?'. Do I do this ? Or do I just uninstall and install Foxit Reader? Can I then open pdfs?
