As an avid Telegraph crossworder submitting some 5 weekend prize competitions every Monday morning, all to the Telegraph Media Group. I've asked them if they would consider accepting them in one envelope instead of the 5 separate ones, to save on the crazy postage increases due on 30th. Needless to say I have had no response. I shall probably carry on doing the puzzles but will not be submitting them - it wont give me the same buzz, but needs must! I hate to cry the blues but as an 80 year old wrinkly find I'm having to cut back on so many outgoings and these new postage charges are the last straw!

I have asked them to delay the time for opening them, thereby allowing us to send 2nd class. Havent heard either....but only sent yesterday, another thread triggering the letter to the DT
I e-mailed the Editor two or three weeks back to ask if the closing date for the Saturday Prize Crossword could be put back a day to allow readers to use a second class stamp instead of a first.

I didn't receive a reply from him but he has taken my suggestion on board and the closing date has been moved back a day to a Friday.

The GKcrossword entries still have to be in by Wednesday
Totally agree with you. I think my Christmas card list is going to be severely cut this year.
Thanks Trix for expressing what we all feel - have long felt that
the only real winner of the weekend crosswords is the Royal Mail.
Like you I try to submit about 5 DT puzzles and it will cost £2 to £3
a week in old money - ouch.
Not quite in my eighties yet but getting close!
Putting them in one envelope would not work. To pick the winners, they put all the unopened envelopes in a tray or whatever, pick one at random, then count a random number from that for the next one etc. It would be cheaper to join their "Clued up" club and submit on line. I know that not all of their crosswords can be submitted that way; perhaps that is where pressure should be applied to the editor?
I understand what you are saying I shall have to cut down too I am 85 but if we put them all ion one envelope it lessens our chances of winning as we will only have one chance of being picked out instead of 5.
there must be sack loads of entries, I would imagine they pick one out of each sack ? I am an oldie too so now due to postage inflation I only send off if the prize is money and refrain sending off for their fountain pen or reference books prizes anymore.
I'm not in the UK so what are the new stamp prices?
I think the best thing is if we can persuade them to give us longer time so the entries can all be sent by second-class stamps. Wednesday is rediculous anyway. If you can't get it into the sat noon post, there is no collection where I live until 5.15 Monday. I am also nearing 80
