Off Tinks thread for this. I may have said this before. Until she was five only my husband and I could understand our daughter. Luckily we were able to get her into a small, private school but if we hadn`t we would have not gone down the road of special education. She now has two good degrees and gives talks to governments all over the world. Your child is bright and with you for a mum will get there.
I was low down the special ed. chain but have two good friends, one a speech therapist and one a SENCO. Shall I see if I can get info from them that may give you more ammunition?

Thing 2 is the youngest of five and has been declared to have a severe, specific speech impediment. I have had to suggest all the way that he needed speech therapy and that maybe a statement was appropriate (ex-teacher so know a tiny bit about it). Any help/ammunition would be brill. Must say, the school he will attend in September have been very helpful so far although nothing could be put in motion until last week when places were confirmed. Thanks again, x (makes you feel very alone when no one else gets 'it')
I take it he has a confirmed place at the school. That`s good. As a teacher you will know that statements can take a long time to be approved and that you will have to make sure that he, and he alone, gets the time and expertise allocated to him. I have been given one child for X number of hours a week only to have three or four added to his/her time. Maybe not all schools do this!
Therapist friend is home from holiday tomorrow eve. Will speak to her then.

Thank you. His speech therapist has recommended intensive speech therapy so hopefully this wil carry some weight (the special school they wanted him to go to needed a level 3 or 4 banded funding or a statement - you can't get level 4 for a speech problem - so he should get some help). Can you imagine sending a four year old off in a taxi whilst taking his twin and siblings to the local school? Over my cold, dead body! Thank you for your interest and help, it's very much appreciated, Kizzy and Daniel, x
