29d. What's common to his and her hearts? (4). I have ?ISH, not totally certain about the S. Obviously several words will fit, but where is the definition?

Haven't seen this week's Inquisitor - is there a theme?
All I could come up with was Tish (a corruption of girl's name Patricia), based on 'tis H, i.e. the common link is the letter H.

Many thanks for the suggestion.
Hi rabet, I think the answer is just the letter H. This is part of the solution to the puzzle as per the preamble. If you wanted to fill in this answer, I'd go with DISH

Thanks turnerjmw ~ but if this is one of the words that is too short to fill the allotted space then it seems to me that we are left with an empty square at the beginning. In all the other cases the words are completed by an intersecting answer.
Question Author
Sorry, ignore that. I think I see what you mean; if the answer is simply H, entered in the first cell, then the three across answers complete the word HISH, a real word as required by the preamble.
The way I see it, the H would be entered as the last letter. The six letters above can either be entered there, or reading down from the start of 14ac, but not both. The word is the acronym spelt out by the first or last letters of extraneous words to identify the theme. That's why I went with DISH. Whichever option you choose should leave real words

But how can you avoid having the acronym in the first column, when the down answers there are DOTARD and ISLAND?
From memory the preamble says it cannot be in 2 places at once choose one of them - or words to that effect so I entered DO and LAND with 6 cells blank
Question Author
Thanks for contributions ~ but still not sure how to proceed!
Well - the 2 areas where the clues with wrong number of letters meet both yield TARDIS - it can only be in one place so choose one.
Fun puzzle. Having completed this I also decided on DISH but then thought, when it came to the craft not being in 2 places at once, that I should choose the craft with the D (abbreviation for 1A) clued in, rather than the craft where the D was "optional". I may have over-thought this, but his being "on board" helped me choose!
