As a single parent, never claiming any benefits at all, and working hard to pay the mortgage and keep hearth and home together, my boyfriend of
3 months arrived one evening and presented me with a large envelope. Inside was an insurance policy he’d taken out on his own life and payable to me, thus ensuring that if anything happened to him, my mortgage would be paid and I wouldn’t have to worry about money.
Reader, I married him.

A guy I was seeing rang for a chat and I mentioned I was weighing up whether I risked taking a sleeping tablet to get some rest so I wasn't sitting the exam exhausted or whether it would risk me not getting up in time for the exam but assured him I was fine. All my housemates had finished their exams and gone away so was in the house alone.
He appeared on my doorstep in the early hours after having jumped in a car and driven over 200 miles.

On the day my husband died, (a Sunday), my daughter's phone rang mid-afternoon. It was her boyfriend who had, without telling her, flown up from Southampton, got himself into Newcastle and got the train up to us. He rang her from the station about 3 miles away.
I think that was love beyond the call at a very sad time for all of us.

When my dad went into nursing home, i had to clear his house. It was difficult circumstances, I wasn't close to him, and I really wasn't looking forward to it. I'd mentioned it in passing at work and my friend offered to keep me company.
She came and picked me up, brought a radio so we would have some music, as well as supplies for cuppas, and helped me go through all the drawers and cupboards, clearing and sorting out all kinds of crap. And throughout she listened to my stories, and my troubles and made me laugh.
It was above and beyond call of duty and I absolutely love her for it.

Lots of people have done nice things for me. The nicest recently was my dad paying for my fare and hotel room to stay overnight up north with him to visit my baby sister and nephew along with middle sister who was visiting from Auzzie land, it was the first time the sisters had been all together in nearly five years. I had been considering trying to get a cheap coach up for one afternoon so it was lovely to have the extra tiime and I couldn't have affored the hotel.
When my first beloved dog died, a friend from work came home with me to a horrible empty house and helped me clear his things away and stayed with me while I cried and talked about him.
When I bought this house, I needed so much money for allsorts and I started to run out, but my wonderful Grandma came up trumps and lent me what I needed. She didn't care how long it took me to pay it back and never asked for any of it. I never paid it all back because she died. No-one has ever loved me as unconditionally as her.
I was burgled once and my Dad (not an emotional man) came round and hugged me tight and made jokes to keep me laughing. He then burglar proofed all my windows and doors at his own cost and wouldnt take anything for the work.
Love is everything.
