Has anyone tried these little suction machines for removal of ear wax? They are quite cheap and I wondered if they are successful? They are still being advertised in magazines and newspapers so they must have some satisfied customers! Thought I would ask your opinions before buying!

I wouldn't, it's a delicate area - your practice nurse at the GP surgery will be trained in ear irrigation, I'd leave it to them. You don't have to pay for that, either.
Ear wax isnt a liquid that can just be sucked out, its usually a solid lump that needs to be softened and then professionally irrigated. Dont mess with weird things in your ears, very risky in my opinion.

I have had my ears syringed every year for many years. Trouble is, Boxie is our GP surgery in MTU only does 2 or 3 syringings max per day (wonder why?) so they are way behind with appointments for this ......... when you suddenly go deaf you need it doing in a few days time after putting olive oil in, not booking 2 or 3 weeks in advance. I just thought this may be quicker ...... but after reading your comments - well maybe I will leave to the professionals! Thanks:)

Wonder why they are still allowed to advertise them with Trades Descriptions Act etc these days?
boxtops is quite right. Let your practice nurse have a look in your ear(s) before you start tinkering around. I once had my ears rinsed out (they don't call it syringing any more) at the GPs, and it was quite pleasant. More importantly, it was done by someone who could see into my ears, which is something that you can't do for yourself!
At a guess I'd suggest they can only devote part of the day to this procedure because they have so many other things to do, these days...

I have used a liquid ear wax softener made by Boots last night - it makes strange popping noises and a tickling sensation as it reaches the wax but its worked well as I'm no longer deaf this morning!
A good idea.....I can see no harm in them and may save a visit to the GP.
