Please don't request answers for this quiz yet. I took weeks compiling it & had hoped it would give you all weeks of fun solving the clues before asking for the answers. The quiz closes on 21st July, we are still busy selling copies & hope to sell many more in the next few months.

Sorry. I was going to send it in leaving that one blank. I've been reasonably generous to St. Guthlac's but will never, ever request the quizzes again

That makes no sense if you were leaving it blank why ask on there then with 5 months to go

That is your prerogative. You still have five months in which to solve that clue. As there are only three US states containing five letters, this clue is not one of the more difficult ones.

You are welcome to return your quiz whenever you like, earlier rather than later, and it doesn't have to be all-correct or completely filled in to qualify for a prize.

This was a polite request by me to ask you all to wait awhile before asking for help with your answers and I am sorry to have offended Touchstone so much on this occasion.

Being stuck on this answer myself I had a quick look to see if anyone had asked for it. I can't believe people are so mean. There doesn't seem any point in having a quiz section on AB if we can't ask for answers. I understand it has taken someone a while to compile the quiz but who is going to look for an answer till they really want it as I have just done. Don't want to cause offence, just making a relevant point.

Very many thanks for your comments/support Kustard. I'll be too frightened to ask questions again on this site although I've answered enough in the past and to say 'This clue is not one of the more difficult ones'. Most of the guys and gals on here are fine but you always get the odd one or two.

I do understand quiz setters asking for people not to request help with answers so early - it spoils it for other people who are still trying to work it out for themselves - and it's all very well saying "don't look" but sometimes the heading doesn't give away the quiz involved. There are still a full four months to go before this one has to be handed it.

PS this isn't a go at Touchstone, but it's a recurring theme when quiz setters find people asking for help when the quiz is still on sale.

Just to butt in here, I came across this question by accident. Knowing Southend on sea I thought What The Funicular when I saw that answer as it made no sense as Southend on sea is Southend on sea, nothing more.

I see it's marked as best answer, but honestly, I think it is wrong

Actually, Postdog, when I saw the answer I texted a friend who has lived in Southend on Sea for 50 years and she'd never heard of it either so thanks for that.
