What is the law behind people who you sent a text to showing it to their friends without your consent?

A friend that you use to like texted eachother everyday. However after falling out they still have your old text messages and are now showing their friends your private conversations. What is the law!

If a friend shows texts messages to others whom you dont give consent to what is the law?

I'm no expert, but I would have thought that once they have received the message it's theirs to with as they wish.

Consider this:

You write a letter and send it to somebody. That letter is then their property. They can show it to whoever they like.

So it is with a text message.
